Thanks for visiting our website. A lot of people have had problems producing a good garden this year with the weather. Here in Arkansas we had problems with tomatoes and sweet corn due to lots of rain.

I am not aware of anywhere that you can order Big Jim peppers and have them shipped to you. I will keep my eye open for you though.

Thanks again,

I LOVE the Big Jim. I first had it visiting a friend in NM. WOW - almost the perfect pepper between heat and taste.

I have grown them the past few years here in Ohio. The weather is usually hot enough to produce some good crops and enough to preserve to use over the winter.

This year - ugh! Very cold even by our standards. Does anyone know of anyone/anyplace I can mail order them from? I would love to get a bushel of them shipped - Fed Ex no problem. I-net searches are iffy at best so far. Any suggestions?

I liked your picture of the feathery sunflower! Are you going to save the seeds and try for some more? Of course the little garden fairies are my favorites!
I sure hope all the first time gardeners do not get discouraged. This was not a wonderful year for gardens at all. Our first planting of corn did not fill out good. The last planting was like it always was before - wonderful & tasty! The peas did not make as many as expected so a lot of orders did not get filled! Love ya'll! Mom & Grandma

I am! Though no hammock, yet.

I pulled up the radishes this weekend to give the shallots and onions some sun. They were ready, so that was fun.
Since everything went down so late (ice, rain, rain, rain...) there isn't much else to harvest right now. Though the herbs are going crazy (they were there already from last year.)
I keep wanting to pull up my potatoes - they are so much bigger (the plants) than I thought they would be. I am waiting patiently - the flowers have just begun to bud.

Yay pictures! That salad looks gorgeous - and your compost boxes are impressive.
I finally got most of my stuff planted over the weekend - finally. i didn't put down lettuce - thinking it's too late, but I may throw a few seeds in anyway, now that I think about it, just to see what happens.
I also want to sow the sugar snap peas - again, may be too late, but we'll see.
I've got four tomato plants though - 2 in buckets, and two in the ground.

I am so glad SPRING finally decided to stick around.

Hello!!! Good question...The bananas add potassium to the soil. They are also very good for roses. I put them around my rose bush all winter long and in the spring it seems to grow twice as big as the year before.
I know tomatoes are heavy feeders. I have never tried the bananas on tomatoes and I am going with the advice given to me by the tomato guru who lives down my street. His tomatoes are HUGE every year so i am sure he knows what he is doing (even if i do not :)) It is up tp you if you want to try them or you can wait til I find out if they work or not...Good luck!

I am curious...no very very curious. What does the banana peel do? I have never heard of this method of planting. I have loads of bananas and if I can find another way of utilizing the peels I am happy to learn.

The sun was finally shining and I finally have a bed filled with compost! Now, just waiting for the rain from last night to dry out! I think I'm too late for spinach and lettuce, but I'll sneak a few in just to see what happens (!)

I'll have to try the manure/nanner method when I get my tomatoes in. Cool!

Curled leaves is usually a sign that the tomatoes got too cold. Temperatures below 40 degrees F can cause this. A frost or a freeze will generally turn the leaves black. You can protect your plants from cool temps by covering them with a sheet or a blanket on cold nights.
